Michelle Caughey, MD
Associate Executive Director
Dr. Caughey has responsibility for The Permanente Medical Group’s (TPMG) hospital operations and quality, emergency medicine, life care planning and palliative care, disaster response, medical ethics, and California government affairs.
Prior to her appointment as associate executive director, Dr. Caughey was physician-in-chief of the Kaiser Permanente South San Francisco Medical Center, where she continues to enjoy her clinical practice in the Department of Medicine.
Dr. Caughey has held several other leadership positions with TPMG over the course of her career, including chief of Medicine, chief of Medical Legal Affairs and Risk Management, and assistant physician-in-chief.
At the state level, Dr. Caughey was a past trustee of the California Medical Association (CMA) and past president of the San Mateo County Medical Association. She is chair of the CMA Very Large Group Practice Forum.
Board certified in internal medicine, Dr. Caughey received her medical degree from Stanford University and completed her residency at Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia.
