Philip Madvig, MD
Associate Executive Director
Dr. Madvig leads The Permanente Medical Group’s (TPMG) nationally recognized clinical quality and population management work. He is also the executive with accountability for accreditation and research, which includes overseeing the TPMG Division of Research (DOR).
The Division of Research is home to 55 research scientists and more than 550 employees who are involved in more than 250 ongoing research studies. DOR researchers are recognized for their scientific expertise worldwide and have contributed more than 3,000 scientific papers to medical and public health literature on a wide range of topics, including cardiovascular disease, cancer, diabetes, substance abuse, mental health, maternal and child health, women’s health, drug safety, health care policy, and health care disparities.
Prior to his appointment as associate executive director in 1997, he was the physician-in-chief of the Kaiser Permanente San Francisco Medical Center.
At the national level, Dr. Madvig is a former member of the Committee on Performance Measurement of the National Committee for Quality Assurance, and currently serves on the Integrated Healthcare Association’s Board of Directors.
Board certified in internal medicine, Dr. Madvig received his medical degree from the University of California, Los Angeles. He completed his residency at Kaiser Permanente San Francisco and fellowships in endocrinology and geriatrics at Stanford University Medical Center.
