General Counsel and Vice President for Legal and Government Affairs
Kristin Chambers leads The Permanente Medical Group’s (TPMG) Legal Department—which includes six other attorneys, the Policy and Data Management unit and a Release of Information unit—and Government Affairs team, which analyzes pending California legislation that affects the medical group and ensures that the Kaiser Permanente government relations staff are well prepared to represent our viewpoints. The team also coordinates TPMG’s participation in the California Medical Association and other medical organizations.
Chambers joined TPMG in 1996 and worked for the medical group for the next six years, spending most of that time as compliance director. In 2002, her compliance leadership role expanded to include Kaiser Foundation Health Plan and Hospitals (KFHP/H) as well as TPMG; she was appointed KFHP/H regional compliance officer, while remaining compliance director for TPMG. She was also accountable for privacy compliance.
Before joining TPMG, Chambers spent more than 5 years with the AIDS Legal Referral Panel, a legal services agency serving people with AIDS. Before that, she was an employment lawyer at Pillsbury, Madison & Sutro.
Chambers graduated cum laude from the University of California Hastings College of the Law, after receiving her bachelor’s degree from Mount Holyoke College in Massachusetts. She currently serves on the board of trustees of Planned Parenthood Northern California.
