Dr. Scurran has served as The Permanente Medical Group’s (TPMG) chief Compliance, Ethics and Integrity officer since 2011.
Dr. Scurran, who joined TPMG as a staff podiatrist at the Kaiser Permanente Hayward Medical Center in 1974, has held several leadership positions during his career with the medical group. After serving as chief of Podiatric Surgery and chief of Medical Staff Education at KP Hayward, Dr. Scurran became assistant physician-in-chief for service, access, and information technology in 2001. He was appointed physician-in-chief for KP Hayward in 2005 and served in that role until he moved to the Northern California regional offices as chief compliance officer in 2011.
A researcher and educator, Dr. Scurran has authored numerous articles in professional journals and edited two editions of the textbook Foot and Ankle Trauma. He has been a member of the clinical faculty of Stanford University and the California College of Podiatric Medicine, and has lectured extensively at national and international events for more than 40 years.
Dr. Scurran has served as president of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons (ACFAS) and the California Podiatric Medical Association. He is board certified in foot and ankle surgery by the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery, and he has served as a member of the board of directors and examination chairman for that organization. In addition, Dr. Scurran served as the chief podiatric medical consultant for the Medical Board of California.
Dr. Scurran graduated from the Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine (Kent State University) in 1973 and completed a residency program in foot and ankle surgery with training at the former Levine Hospital in Hayward, at Highland Alameda County Hospital, and at the California College of Podiatric Medicine.
